Jushjelpa i Midt-Norge is one of five regional student-based legal aid organizations. We offer free legal advice and provide legal aid in individual cases. We accept all types of cases, except cases involving criminal law or tax law. Jushjelpa i Midt-Norge primarily assist clients who cannot afford to obtain legal representation, nor qualify for free legal aid. We urge you to contact us if you are in need of any legal aid.
Jushjelpa i Midt-Norge primarily exists to provide assistance to particularly vulnerable groups and individuals in difficult situations—parties who normally cannot get help through regular legal aid services. If you qualify for free legal aid, or if you have the means to obtain a regular attorney, we will ask you to use these options.
Jushjelpa i Midt-Norge provide legal advice and information to clients. In addition, we can represent you in communication with the opposing party outside of court, both verbally and in writing. We also take part in negotiations with the opposing party, which is most common in labour disputes and tenancy cases. Negotiations at an early stage could however, help resolve the conflict at the earliest stage of mediation in other branches of law as well.
Furthermore, we represent clients before the Conciliation Board, the Rent Disputes Tribunal, the National Insurance Court, as well as the Court of Enforcement in Trondheim. The majority of our cases commence in Trondheim. However, Jushjelpa I Midt-Norge has on several occasions attended hearings before the Conciliation Board outside of Trondheim, including Skaun, Rissa, and Stjørdal.
Jushjelpa i Midt-Norge, originally called Studentjushjelpa, was established in 1991 with the help of the Student Welfare Organization in Trondheim (SiT), in response to an initiative from the city’s law students. Initially, we only accepted students as clients. During the first year, the five students who worked for Studentjushjelpa handled 28 cases. Since then, the number of cases and number of employees have increased considerably. In 1997, we extended our services to include non-students, and today we are proud to offer free legal advice to people all over the country. In 2017, we accepted 3318 cases, and in 2018 we hope that the number of cases will increase even further.
Jushjelpa i Midt-Norge is located at Bispegata 9C, close to the County Governor and Birralee International School Trondheim.
